There are a number of issues raised with your union office that require your feedback and involvement to resolve. How widely and deeply felt these issues are and how willing members are to take action to support your entitlements may be decisive in the outcome.

Important update for Medical Staff

Posted July 17, 2014

It’s been an interesting week with the "estimates" process in State Parliament giving some insight in to the Health budget. We remain concerned about future funding and are continuing our Stop the Cuts campaign.

As many of you would be aware, on Wednesday 9 July 2014 the Director-General of Queensland Health, Mr Ian Maynard, via DG Connect, advised SMOs and VMOs of the opening of nominations for the Queensland Health Contracts Advisory Committee (“CAC”).  This email was sent 3 days after nominations had in fact been opened by the Australian Electoral Commission (“AEC”) who has been contracted by Queensland Health to conduct the elections.

The Medical Officers Award (the large document containing basic employment conditions for Medical Officers not on contracts) is in the process of being "modernised" – that is stripped of conditions. This is part of the same legislation that introduced the individual contract arrangements for SMOs and VMOs and this process is happening across the public sector.

Contract check in

Posted June 13, 2014

Dear doctors,

Well it has all gone very quiet, but is it the end of the contract signing phase or the eye of the storm?

Group negotiations were held in most HHS or craft groups across the state and it seems that while no one is happy, most groups have a contract they can live with or a promise to make further changes. But many of you are waiting expectantly for a countersigned and confirmed contracts and we are all waiting for the promised directive to apply private practice benefits between 30 June and 4 August.

Update for Medical Officers

Posted June 2, 2014

With May 31 having been and gone, and with a flurry of activity up until the last minute, many members have now signed an SMO or VMO contract. If you have yet to hear about an extension of time, or are having any ongoing issues related to the May 31 date, please contact us at or on 1800 177 244 for industrial assistance.

Together doctors and ASMOF doctors have now had their say on the latest contract documents.

It’s been a very difficult year for Doctors in Queensland. You’ve been forced to defend your basic working rights and conditions instead of being able to solely focus on your important jobs at hand.
